The unemployment picture keeps getting worse in Florida, with WTXL Television in Tallahassee reporting that unemployment is now at 12 percent, up from 11.9 percent in October.

The counties that are not hardest hit are those with a high number of government workers such as Big Bend, according to the Agency for Workforce Innovation, Florida’s lead workforce agency that administers the Florida workforce and unemployment programs.

However, amid the dismal employment picture, Governor-elect Rick Scott has vowed to cut 5 percent of the state government’s work force by 5,000 to 10,000 jobs, while at the same time pledging to put 700,000 Floridians back to work.

Florida already has an inexpensive payroll cost at $38 per resident. The average among other states is $72 per resident. Out-of-work Floridians and employers are encouraged to look at www.employflorida.com to search for positions and eligible, qualified candidates.
